On the 16th October 2004 the trackgang were happily laying extensions
to the carriage sidings at the back of the carriage shed when we were
informed that the carriages wouldn't be coming any further into the
carriage shed as the loco had come off the rails. Of course we
carried on busily laying the tracks!
143 had come to grief whilst propelling its train back into the
carriage shed. This had resulted in part of one power bogie
becoming derailed and the B wagon that was next to the loco being pushed
over at a 45 degree angle.
The following day Ffestiniog staff and loco crew re-railed the loco
using large pan jacks and bits and wood and rail. The Black Hand
Gang later assisted the rolling stock volunteers in returning the B
wagon to the rails.
It is not known whether the broken spring on 143 was a result or the
cause of the incident. |
